If you are a fan of clean, crisp tailoring and simple fuss-free designs, you are in luck this season as the masculine-inspired look is set to be big. You only have to switch on the TV or open a magazine to see that androgynous style is a firm favourite amongst celebrities including Pixie Lott, Kate Bosworth and Alexa Chung, proving that mannish doesn’t have to look butch.

Westfield London’s in-house personal stylist Anna Moore has helped many clients achieve this look and you can even borrow some pieces from your boyfriend! To adopt this covetable trend follow these styling tips on how to wear the staple pieces;

Shirts

The great thing about a shirt is its versatility. Not just for job interviews, shirts can be buttoned right to the collar for a Mod twist, worn undone as a casual overshirt or tied in a knot for a flirty, 50s evening look.

Often the most important part of an outfit is the finishing touches though, so why not add a tied ribbon through the shirt collar for a modern bow tie, a pretty broach to inject a girly touch or perhaps a boy-meets-girl bowler hat?

Alternatively, personal stylist, Anna Moore, recommends the polka dot shirt with bow tie, £54.90,  from Massimo Dutti – “It’s genius as it makes macho dressing look girlie!”

Ankle-Grazing Trousers / Peg leg trousers / Chinos

You boyfriend’s chinos are likely to be too long, but this actually adds to the authenticity of the look. Anna adds that tan, pleated chinos are a classic so if he has a pair this colour, great!

Simply roll the bottoms up 2 – 3 times to create a cinched trouser leg just on the ankle. To perfect the look leave a small gap between the bottom of your trouser leg and your brogues to show off your ankles, or alternatively why not tuck trousers into ankle high Chelsea boots for a more streamlined silhouette.

Blazers

Navy is the suit colour of the season and doubled breasted jackets are a hot topic. If your guy’s blazer is more geek than chic, updating the buttons is a cheap and easy way to personalise it.

Gold buttons add a touch of vintage glamour, or merge two key AW trends together by opting for tweed print buttons for a heritage feel.  If you are not sure about the oversized look use a thin belt to cinch the jacket in at the waist, or Anna loves the tweed ‘Reigate’ boyfriend jacket from NW3 at Hobbs, £229.

Brogues, Loafers and Chelsea Boots

With winter approaching don’t forget to opt for waterproof fabrics (like leather) and good quality rubber soles to avoid any unfortunate slippage on soggy autumn leaves.

Anna says, “Office have some fabulous loafer booties in tan, just £75”. Who ever knew fashion and practicality could go hand in hand!

The Finishing Touches

Now you know all the ingredients for that killer boy-meets-girl look, why not visit Westfield London for the full range of androgynous women’s clothing? Just be careful not to lose your feminine edge by adding a slick of red lippie or a spritz of floral perfume. You may also have the slight hurdle of asking your boyfriend’s permission before sharing his wardrobe!

If you wish to complete your look with a pair of boyish shoes then brogues, loafers or Chelsea boots are the shoes of the moment. Look for tassels, fringing and laces for that true British heritage feel.
