Virgin Wines Keep It Sparkling In 2014

Following the recent news from Kantar Worldpanel that sparkling wine is the fastest-growing alcohol in Great Britain, Virgin Wines, leading UK wine retailer has announced sales of sparkling wines at a staggering 50 per cent year on year increase, with over 68,000 bottles sold to-date in 2014.
Prosecco is the no.1 seller with Virgin Wines customers, selling an incredible 38,000 bottles this year – the firm favourite being Le Dolci Colline Prosecco NV at £9.99. Two low alcohol fizzes from Spain take second and third place – Amatista Moscatel NV and Amatista Moscatel Rose NV priced at £4.99.
Jay Wright, CEO, Virgin Wines commented: “With sparkling wines being more on trend than ever before, we naturally expected to see an increase in sales, but not by a hefty 50 per cent and not prior to the busy festive season. The hot summer has worked hugely in our favour, with more and more customers choosing Prosecco over Champagne and lower alcohol options to kick back and enjoy in the sunshine. We’ve forecast great things for sparkling wine sales for Christmas and New Year and look forward to smashing our 2013 figures.
