Keeping hydrated this party season

Winter – cosies and hot chocolates, romantic walks in the snow. All the lovely parts of winter but we often forget the miserable parts – hangovers and bugs!

Summertime it’s effortless to drink endless supplies of chilled water, made into glamorous concoctions infused with mint, cucumber or even the fancy new tea bags. You should be drinking as much in the winter as you do in the summer! Hydration is important due to a number of winter elements;

  • Endless central heating
  • Bugs and sickness doing the rounds.
  • Christmas and New Year parties.

Having a handy supply of fresh and toxin free water is important. Some counties you wouldn’t really want to glug down that much tap water and of course – bottled water is now so damaging to the environment it can’t be considered a viable source.

Enter water filtration. Taking your recycled tap water, filtering out as many nasties as possible and delivering you fresh drinking water on a par with an alpine spring.

We tried Zero Water, which has a handy tool to determine the purity of your input vs the purity after filtration. They range from £14.99 to £44.99 for various sizes and a few come with the TDS meter so you can see how you are improving your water supply purity. I didn’t need one so much as I’m in Scotland – famed for its soft and pure water even from the tap – but if you live in the Midlands or South East it’s worth tracking what quality of water you are getting back.

HOW LONG WILL MY FILTER LAST?
THIS DEPENDS ON THE INITIAL QUALITY OF YOUR UNFILTERED TAP WATER & DAILY CONSUMPTION.
The amount of dissolved solids in tap water varies across the UK. Each ZeroWater filter removes 18,000 milligrams of dissolved solids leaving you with the purest tasting water.
Use the table above to see how many litres of water your ZeroWater filter will produce.

The FDA requires the TDS level in PURIFIED bottled water to reach 000-010ppm. ZeroWater is the only filter in its class to achieve this level. ZeroWater’s first layer of filtration, activated carbon and oxidation reduction alloy removes the chlorine taste you are accustom to with tap water.

The Ion Exchange stage removes virtually all dissolved solids that may be left over from public water systems or even leached into your water from piping such as Aluminum, Lead, Zinc, Nitrate and more. Three additional stages are included to remove other contaminants and to ensure your water receives the appropriate amount of treatment time to deliver a “000” reading on your water quality meter.

An excellent product, does the job better than anything else on the market and will minimise your need for plastic bottled water immediately. There’s also a travel/sports version so you can fill up at a water station into the filter and a big box version for your fridge to leave the door space free. My only issue is with the shape of the jug – they say it’s made to fit in a fridge door – which it is! But with modern sized fridges it’s ALL you can fit in the fridge door. We keep other tall items in the fridge door – so my hack is to filter your water on the counter top and transfer it to a more sympathetic shape that works with your fridge space.
