Bohemian Chic Minerals 100% pure, natural, vegan & halal

Bohemian Chic Minerals is a new cosmetic brand, created by Jameela to solve the problem of her uber sensitive skin.  She also had to have halal, animal free products and such niche products are hard to find in a fast moving and cut throat cosmetics industry.  So why not make her own?

After thorough investigation,  Jameela found all sorts of weird and disturbing ingredients in our much loved and coveted beauty products – such as beetle bugs, sheep oil, crushed bones, fish scales and shoe polish!  These ingredients are not only stomach turning but can cause huge problems for people with sensitive skin as they aren’t natural things to be putting on your skin and they are definitely not vegan beauty!

Jameela has created a range from foundations, blushers and bronzers to eye shadows, lip glosses and lipsticks.  We’ve reviewed some of the range below.  There’s a much wider range of colours available on the website as the colours I was sent for review aren’t quite right for my skintone.  I’ll be asking Nikki our Women of Colour beauty editor to review them from her point of view so you can see on a different skin tone.

The eyeshadows.  These are a wonderful colour with good pigmentation.  I’d asked for some greens to do an AW feature on green shadows and the colours sent were lovely tones of green.  Just a little was required to make these swatches so I can see the containers lasting for a while.

L-R Evergreen, Green Aqua, Gemstone, Mint

I've taken MINT from another angle as it has a lovely brown shimmer to it which you can't see in the image above. A wonderful neutral colour.

Next up are the lipsticks.  The formula is pretty thick with these, as you can see the swatch on the left has chunks of lipstick still in it.  I feel these would benefit from being applied with a lip brush.  £14

Lip Glosses.  Very shiny and highly pigmented, the depth of colour is excellent.  £15 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Blushes.  The ones I was sent were VERY shimmery, not my thing at all so I would use sparingly.  There are matt ones on the website in more nude and pinky tones   £15.

Excellent pigmentation, bright colours and blendable.  I would definitely start with a little as the pigmentation may be a little strong for you if you are not used to mineral makeup.  Sugar & Spice is more suited to an olive to dark skin tone as it’s very orange but the other two can be used by people with a wide range of skin tones.  Shimmering Frost is a really pretty shade I’m just put off by the amount of shimmer – for an older chick it’s really too much.  I’d probably go for something like Nude (matt) or Temptation (matt)
