A gin for every occasion – Caorunn Scottish Raspberry

The gin explosion has failed to slow down and every week it seems some weird and fancy flavour comes out to tantalise the tastebuds and give us the shock value.

I’m a purist when it comes to gin. Well I thought I was. Most of the unusual gins didn’t appeal to me – but there’s a couple of really stellar varieties that I’ve come across that have really sung out to me.

There’s a wonderful, stunning flavour Coconut gin that just tastes like summer. One brand that does a passionfuit gin liquer that is thick and sticky like melted sweeties. Then there’s this.

Scottish raspberries are praised worldwide for their semi tart juiciness and complex flavour. Other growing countries just don’t seem to have the perfect mix of weather conditions that Scotland offers to produce the perfect raspberry.

And here we have this beautiful gin that encapsulates everything fresh and juicy about Scottish Strawberries and the smooth, crisp taste of the Caorunn gin. I’ve got some fabulous ways to enjoy this gin – so go ahead and make one and sit back and relax;

Caorunn Raspberry Gin (1 measure)/House of Elrick Coconut Gin (1 measure) Tons of Ice, Squeeze of lime and topped up in a long glass or balloon glass with “Mediterranean” Tonic water

Caorunn Raspberry Gin (1 measure)/ Passionfruit Gin Liqueur (1 measure) and topped with Elderflower Tonic and a branch of fresh mint.

Caorunn Raspberry Gin, Cucumber and Mint Tonic, topped with a long curl of fresh cucumber.

Raspberry Gin Fizz

Pour the gin (50ml), lemon juice and sugar syrup (2 tsp) in a cocktail shaker and fill up with ice cubes. Shake well until the outside of the shaker feels cold then strain into a tall glass filled with more ice and top up with sparkling water. Garnish with a lemon slice.
