Seasonal Craft Beers For Barbecues and Father’s Day

From Laithwaite’s Wines comes some great beers for summer barbecues in the garden – it’s predicted to be a scorcher next week. Also these would be great for Father’s Day this Sunday 21 June, so crack open any of the below tipples and enjoy!

Utopian Unfiltered British Lager NV 4.7% abv, 440ml, Devon, UK

Sustainably brewed from all-British ingredients, this is an unfiltered lager with a citrus nose that tastes gentle on malt. It has a lively and clean finish.
Long, slow fermentation and cold conditioning ensures full flavour, with haze from the unfiltered yeast. £2.50 per bottle.

Ilkley Brewery Mary Jane NV 3.5% abv, 500ml, North Yorkshire, UK

This pale ale has just the right amount of bite in the finish to keep from being too sharp and is perfectly balanced by a lively palate of hops and toffee. Creamy on the tongue and full of flavour, despite the low alcohol content. £2.49 per bottle.

Stiegl Goldbräu NV 5.0% abv, 330ml, Austria

This strongly flavoured beer boasts toffee, yeast, malt and hops in one mouthful. We’d recommend drinking with a rich meat meal or barbecue roast to offset the slightly bitter tasting finish. £2.50 per bottle.

Caveat – you still need to observe social distancing rules (currently 2m apart and six people maximum) and do confirm the latest in your area before embarking on an out-of-doors gathering .

*Utopian Brewing’s unfiltered lagers are influenced by the Bavarian Helles style, but use British grown ingredients. Utopian Brewing has already won SIBA awards despite being less than a year old. Craft and tailored small batches are their niche.
