Five Ways to Broaden Your Mind and Perspective

By  |  0 Comments

Broadening your mind is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. The world is a massive place, and it’s only natural to not have every unique idea or viewpoint bottled up in your head. Exploring how others live and experience the world can help you develop empathy, make new discoveries for yourself (and even about yourself), and of course, help you escape and journey through a thousand lives.

We all need to broaden our minds. We need to be curious and respectful about each other and where we have come from. We need to celebrate our differences for the unique approaches to humanity that they are, and you can start today from the comfort of your own home.

  • Read Books from Underrepresented Authors

They say that truth is stranger than fiction, which is why diversifying the authors on your bookshelf is the single best way to completely change your reading experience. Writers draw on what they know, and reading authors from different backgrounds, groups, and countries will immediately open you up to new experiences.

You can understand more about people from all walks of life if you read more books from authors in those circles. Even fantasy will feel inherently different when the lore, stories, and imagery taken is vastly different from what you have grown up with.

You can look for these books online, or you can subscribe to hand-picked choices from headymix.co.uk. Both options will let you broaden your mind both through non-fiction and fiction.

  • Watch Documentaries

Documentaries are a great way to learn more about history, culture, current affairs, and the natural world around you. Just as you should diversify your author lists, don’t be afraid to watch documentaries from various directors and countries. Subtitles are often available if a dub isn’t, and you can explore wide and far what makes humanity, and our natural world, so incredible from multiple perspectives.

  • Watch Foreign Films and Televisions

If you only watch English shows and movies, you are massively missing out. There are some truly high-budget, incredible shows from all around the world that you could very well fall in love with before you know it. Not only will you be able to enjoy more of the genres and topics that you love, you will also be exposed to how different cultures live and the stories that matter to them.

  • Follow International News and Inquiries

It is always a good idea to be up to date on the world news. It gives you so much context on your own country, and how we relate to each other on a grand scale. By reading a small news update on what happened in the world, you can be an informed citizen and have talking points to discuss throughout the day.

  • Try New Things

Finally, try new things. There are classes, webinars, crafts, and so much more out there that you can try out and enjoy. If you can, try to support an artist who represents the cultural identity of the art you are looking to try out. This way you can help them keep their culture alive in your country.
