The 2 step self-care process to safeguard your wellbeing

The everyday pressures on you were bad enough before the current crisis. Now along with all of the previous pressures in your life, you have to contend with upheavals at work as well as at home, all the while separated, to some degree or other, from your usual support networks.

While this is all going on outside, what is going on inside you is every bit as important, and it is at times like these when you might be neglecting to look after yourself. This is easier said than done and everybody’s needs will vary. However, here is a rough framework that could provide a decent starting point for your own program of self-care.

#1 The Basics

You have no doubt heard (or read somewhere) the idiom about not being able to pour from an empty cup, and this is really at the root of all basic self-care practices. It is about replenishing everything the day has taken out of you and getting back some of what has been lost over the longer term.

This starts with getting the 7-9 hours of sleep a night that is generally recommended. You should know by now how poor sleep affects everything we do and can lead, indirectly at least, to putting on excess weight.

If this is the case, you will get even more benefits from daily exercise, even if it is just going out for a walk. The ideal amount of exercise will vary massively according to age and current health, but a little is better than nothing at all.

The third basic is to make sure you are drinking enough. If you are not managing to drink the recommended amount of water you are going to have a poorer cognitive and physical response. Yes, it will lead to more trips to the bathroom initially, but once your body is used to the change, you should see the benefits.

#2 Helping hands

Once you have the basics covered, you could look at your working life, which, if you are honest, is often the root of the stresses and anxieties that lead to you neglecting yourself.

One possible solution is the use use of products containing CBD Oil. Now that the myths regarding the legality and effects of this product have been put to rest, using CBD Oil products like those at herbalhealthcbd.co.uk has become more widespread in the battle against stress and anxiety.

Alongside this, you need to ensure that even if you are working from home, you get enough downtime each day you are scheduled to work. It is very easy to keep working on and justifying the extra hours as the time you would normally spend on your commute anyway. Instead, you could be using this time as a starting point for your self-care program.

This should keep you from simply ‘topping up’ your anxiety and undoing all of the good work that you will be putting in. This also goes for sitting up late ‘doomscrolling’ through social media, so a reduction in screen time needs to be part of your routine as well.
