Vergelegen Sauvignon Blanc 2020, 13.5% abv, South Africa

Grown from grapes from Vergelegen’s own vineyard which started in 1700, this wine has a pale green hue. The palate resonates with the expected overtones of lime, gooseberry, passion fruit, white pepper and guava. We recommend drinking this alone. £10.00 from Tesco.

Ramon Bilbao Rioja 2018, 14.0% abv, Spain

What more can be said about this staple that delivers all the richness of the Tempranillo grape grown in the Rioja region of Spain. Aged in American oak barrels for 3 months, luscious and dark red fruit abounds on the palate. Pairs well with red meat dishes and strong cheeses. £8.00 from Tesco.

Luminoso Leggero Prosecco, 8.5% abv, Italy

This is a second appearance for this sensational fizz! Pale yellow in colour with a nose of sherbet, the palate bursts with lemon and honeysuckle. The softest mousse disperses in the mouth, followed by a smooth and creamy finish. Made from the Glera grape, ‘Luminoso’ also benefits from a lower alcohol content. Wyfold Vineyard Brut Rosé, 12.0% abv, Great Britain

For a lively and sparkly start to the new season, this bone dry, rosé fizz comes from a blend of Pinot Noir grapes grown on an Oxfordshire estate. It’s good to find the UK producing award winning wine. The palate boasts gentle red berries with a hint of flint and toast. £29.99 a bottle from Laithwaites.

Riversong Viognier 2021, 13.5% abv, Chile

This four-time winner of the Chilean Winery of the Year award has a palate of delicate apricot and peach laced with exotic spice and ripe lychee. Crisp on the palate, this is delicious to drink on its own. £9.99 per bottle from Laithwaites.

Leon Vatan Sancerre Le Chanvieres Blanc 2019, 13.0% abv, France

Intense palate of gooseberries and grapefruit, with citrus overtones on the nose. Savour the long finish, this goes well with fish and seafood and lightly flavoured cheeses. Made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Serve chilled. £14.99 per bottle from Aldi.

Chesseux et Fils Rosé 2020, 12.0% abv, France

Aldi’s Specially Selected range brings you this richly coloured wine that has a palate of spicy strawberry, raspberry and cherry. Made from a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Muscat grapes. Pair with prawn and salads.  £6.99 per bottle from Aldi.

Castellore Primitivo 2019, 13.5% abv, Italy

This fruity wine made from the Primitivo grape has a distinct nose of damson. The palate imparts a complex, rich and juicy palate of burnt, black fruit that leads to a short finish of almonds. Pair with red meats and cheeses. £6.99 per bottle from Aldi.
