REDFOOT’S DISNEY DAY AT THE MAY FAIR HOTEL, LONDON W1

The name Walt Disney is probably most synonymous with childrens’ animated entertainment and needs little introduction. Since its inception in 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy Disney the US conglomerate has expanded over the years to include ownership of many prestigious television networks. And so on a Sunday morning in March the sumptuous central London venue played host to a day of film, champagne and cupcakes.

Redfoot’s Disney Day kicked off with a showing of THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, a 2009 animation by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The story is based on E D Baker’s classic tale about Princess Tiana and her frog companion who really wants to become human agan. The film is set in 1920’s Louisiana and features the  The voice of actress Anika Noni Rose as the Princess. Incidentally this production is also the first Disney film featuring an African American princess.

The viewing audience consisted of mainly mums and excited children ranging in age fromfour up to ten years, all gathered together for a truly magical experience.

The second viewing brought TANGLED, the latest animated musical film also by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Released in 2010 it is an enchanting tale based around the story of Rapunzel originally written by the Brothers Grimm in which a baby princess is snatched from her parents and raised in a tower by her wicked stepmother. The voices of the main characters Rapunzel, Flynn Rider and Mother Gothel are played by Mandy Moore, Zachary Levy and Donna Murphy respectively who have a wealth of acting experience between them.At £260m TANGLED is the most expensive animated film ever made, and the second of all time after Pirates of the Caribbean..

It is also the second highest grossing animation ever, after The Lion King. TANGLED was presented in 3D animation. The afternoon wasn’t all about screen entertainment however. Redfoot Shoes, the Brainchild of the Bacup shoe company started in 1928 recently teamed up with Disney to produce a line of Disney themed footwear.
