Six of Rhodes’ Most Magnificent Beaches

The glorious Greek Island of Rhodes is known for its many vast and beautiful stretches of beach around its rugged and historic coastline. When you visit the island, make sure you leave time in your sightseeing schedule to relax by the water at one of these six fantastic beaches, that are among the most magnificent on the island.

Prassonissi

As you can see, the large yet picturesque beach at Prassonissi is unique in that you have not one shoreline, but two, thanks to the small peninsula that rises from the waves and divides the water. The winds can be rather strong at Prassonissi beach during July and August, which attracts keen windsurfers and kite enthusiasts and makes for an interesting viewing experience whilst you soak up the sun.

Ixia

Just 5km south of Rhodes Town you’ll find Ixia, a fashionable resort that’s known for its outstanding beauty that’s not just restricted to its gorgeous beach. At the beach itself it’s not uncommon to see numerous windsurfers traversing the water at this popular water-sports spot – why not join them? Fourni

Located on the west of the island, Fourni beach is some distance away from the main resorts on Rhodes, yet this small beach is worth seeking out for its fabulously secluded atmosphere and glorious natural surroundings. The waves are notoriously rough here which means it’s avoided by families with small children – fantastic news for you, as you have a better chance of having this beach and its coves all to yourself.

St. Paul’s Bay

Often cited as the most beautiful beach on Rhodes, it’s not difficult to see why St Paul’s Bay has been bestowed with this title, or why hundreds of couples choose this beach as their wedding venue every year. The bay is almost entirely enclosed by rocks which adds to the secluded atmosphere, and the crystal-clear water provides the perfect backdrop to a marriage ceremony, or just a summer getaway.

When the actor Anthony Quinn came to this stunning bay to film his movie, The Guns of Navarone, he fell so hopelessly in love that he went ahead and bought it. This gorgeous, hidden beach with emerald water about 15km from Rhodes Town now bears his name, and when you make your way through the vegetation and dig your toes into the soft sand, you’ll want to own a piece of this beach too.

Tsambika

Although Tsambika beach is far from a well-kept secret on Rhodes, this delightful beach offers golden sands lapped by calm, clear waters that are particularly inviting for water-sports lovers. Look up, and you’ll see that the beach is overlooked by the famous monastery of Tsampika, named after the virgin who was said to have miraculous powers, and whose name is still invoked by women that are having trouble conceiving.
