The Middleton brow effect – sales through the roof of brow kits!

The Duchess of Cambridge’s effect on sales at Escentual.com have been phenomenal and sales of eye brow kits and accessories are six times higher from last month (June 2012) than the previous year.  The biggest sales spike came over the Diamond Jubilee celebration weekend. On the days Kate appeared a lot on TV, such as on the Thames river boat procession and the Jubilee pop concert, there were record sales of eye-brow products on Escentual.com.

With this in mind – I decided to see if I could recreate the Duchess’s look at home.  Normally I get my eyebrows waxed or threaded – whatever deal is on groupon that month.  I’d rather a professional did it as I feel I have slightly weirdly shaped eyebrows that have a tendency to look horizontal and I don’t have the patience generally to pluck them down. Also it hurts a little but for longer than waxing or threading.

There are a number of brow kits on the market – Escentual report that the Clarins one is their best seller and I c an see why – it’s very chic looking and comes with a handy mirror for topping up on the go.  However I went for a Too Faced – sans mirror but came with stencils which seemed like a good idea.

My before and after;

Before

After

My conclusion;
I think this kit would be great for someone with already fairly neat eyebrows (ie post wax to keep neat and look bold) or with less eyebrow hair than me.  I just found since I hadn’t had eyebrows done since  end of July there was just too much work plucking around the stencilled area.  The stencils are a great idea although the little break in the middle means you get a break in your eyebrow which you need to fill in.

The setting wax is helpful if you are going out for the day or evening — just to keep them tame and in place and the highlighter is very blendable – you can’t see you are wearing it but you can see the improvement in the brow!  The eyebrow pencil is quite heavily pigmented so watch and not apply with a heavy hand – it goes on very easily but doesn’t come off so quick!  You also get a pretty sharp pair of tweezers and a brow shadow brush and comb.

I do feel my eyebrows still looked a little flat -although certainly better than they did when I started!  I’m not a great fan of a bold brow but I’ve seen it on some girls and it looks fantastic.  All in all it’s a handy wee kit with everything in place where you need it.  It’s beautifully packaged too – very glamorous!

So if, like me you have unruly eyebrows or thatch like offerings – This kit would be great to have in your cupboard to top up and keep groomed between waxes/threading.
Or if you want to treat yourself to the Rolls Royce of brow treatments it has to be HD brows.
