What to do in London

London City Break Guide;

Perfect for Christmas shopping, anniversaries, theatre breaks, spa weekends and romantic trips.  Anyone of any age can enjoy London – but here are some top tips to get the best out of your trip;

  • Never underestimate the benefit of not having to get on and off a tube.  If you can get your accommodation as close to your activities as possible it will save you time, money and a lot of stress.  Tubes are for commuters – they are neither pleasant, friendly, clean nor enjoyable.
  • Take the bus.  Not a tour bus but a regular, run of the mill bus if you are planning a short trip.  I took the bus from Oxford Circus to Covent Garden – it took 10 mins, I was “with case” and didn’t have to lug it up and down tube stairs, changing at Holborn to get to Covent Garden. The bus was empty, quick enough, easy to get on and off and a great way to view the city.

Where to stay?

So many options – it’s hard to see past Trip Advisor sometimes – more importantly it’s about location, location, location and a bit of quiet!

I have 3 choices, which have been well researched and reviewed!  I wouldn’t recommend anywhere that I thought would be difficult for people but these three options represent a good cross section of practical uses.

CHANCERY COURT HOTEL – “OLD HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR”

Beautiful dining rooms and bar area – outstanding breakfast options

Ayurvediac Spa and fitness centre

Walking distance to everything – Covent Garden, Victoria Embankment

Gorgeous plush linens and marble topped bathrooms

Incredibly peaceful for a central London hotel

MONTCALM CITY (BARBICAN/FINSBURY SQUARE AREA) “HIP HOTEL & SPA”

Montcalm Double Room  Montcalm Twin

Gorgeous Montcalm Bathroom

Best points;

Quiet during the weekend

Fantastic dining rooms attached to the hotel – top quality dining without the pretencious atmosphere

Free wifi throughout the hotel

Spa and swimming pool

A few minutes walk to the Circle and Hammersmith/City tube lines which takes you around all the main attractions.

BASE2STAY KENSINGTON – “HOME AWAY FROM HOME IN LEAFY WEST LONDON”

Very quiet affluent area with leafy tree lined streets, safe and secure

Your own mini-kitchen so you are able to enjoy 4* standard accommodation without the price tag.

Extremely comfortable bedding, large showers and plenty storage space

Different room configurations – including adult bunks, single rooms, doubles, deluxes with patio and family.
