Banging British Breaks
The thought of spending £2k on a summer holiday these days seems madness in the fact you just don’t know if you are even going to get there safely or not. The abject chaos and heartache caused by the airlines this summer is not something anyone would willingly sign up for – so why not consider taking a fabulous holiday in the UK instead?
Mansions with Indoor Pools. From 2.5k. Get you and the crew, whether that’s friends/family (or both) together for a weekend shindig to celebrate a success such as graduation, hen night or birthday. With rentable mansions with pools offering options like 10 bedrooms but sleeping 21 people if fully occupied, price per person per night is usually between £27 and £74. Having outstanding facilities such as pools, tennis courts, large group dining areas and lounges makes it super easy to relax and enjoy the company of others as well as some solitude during the break
Our top pick is Langley Grange which is a late Georgian country house near the Norfolk Broads. It’s suitable for holidays and celebrations with family and friends.
The house sleeps up to 21 guests in 10 bedrooms. There is a large, modern kitchen, with a seating area and a conservatory that seats up to 22 on a beautifully long table. There is also a comfortable drawing room with an open fire, a snooker room and two further reception rooms. There’s a pretty indoor swimming pool, bedecked with Venetian frescoes, and a shower room.
Langley has lots of outdoor space for summer barbecues and admiring the views. There’s an all-weather tennis court and a second swimming pool, for summer days when bathing outside is a complete treat.
Host your Own Murder Mystery Weekend
Cluedo or Agatha Christie style – you could stage your own whodunnit in a venue such as Pekes Manor Estate which has 8 bedrooms. Send out mysterious invites asking people to dress in 20’s style flapper outfits – a la Murder on the Orient Express and plan out an evening (or weekend) of fun and games. The last day could be for relaxing and socialising.
This site has fab downloads where you can get a full murder mystery pack to work from so you don’t have to get creative in any way. Raid some charity shops for dressing up basics – you don’t have to go full vintage like the folk in the picture – a few fedoras, pearls and shawls will do!
Then plan a lovely dinner or buffet and let the fun commence! Champagne cocktails and canapes will set the mood and you can continue it into the next day. If you are feeling particularly bougie – someone like Smoke and Mirrors will come and run the party for you so you can join in the fun!
Pekes Manor is a Grade II listed pre-Tudor country house dating from before 1470. The estate has been owned by the same family for over a hundred years, and previously by the same family since Tudor times. (It even looks haunted – imagine hosting a Halloween party here!)
The self-catering accommodation on the estate is flexible. The Manor sleeps up to 20 in 8 bedrooms, and there are 5 other properties on the estate which in total can accommodate up to 60 guests (The Oast House 12, Mounts View 12, The Wing 6, Gate Cottage 5, and Tudor View 6).
The Pekes Estate has extensive gardens and parklands of 28 acres, which are shared by the guests of the other houses. It is entirely private, and lies in beautiful open countryside with amazing view of the historic Weald, with the Downs beyond.
Should you be feeling energetic, there is an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, lawn badminton, hard Macadam style tennis court, a children’s play area and endless lawns for boules and croquet. Chickens live in the old Walled garden.
