Edinburgh’s oasis of calm at Castle Thai Spa

In a city rife with high end hotels boasting world class spas it can be hard to just get a really simple treatment.  Most expensive urban retreats come with spa entry fees of us to £50 per day and that’s before you’ve even had a cup of tea.  The spa industry is a pricey one and can flatten your wallet in one go.

Castle Thai Spa – situated smack bang in the middle of the shopping distance is a real haven from the madness of a Saturday in town or a bum numbing office job round the corner.  It concentrates on effective and pampering Thai massage – with the masseuses being trained for over 150 hours in Thailand using practical, hands on methods.  The products they use (aside from the massage candle) are all made in Thailand from ingredients grown in Thailand.

My lady was extremely polite, friendly and inquisitive and knew where I had knots in my shoulders (all over and big ones too) so she got to work using the candle wax/massage oil to really relax the muscles then work out the knots.  At one point her elbows were in my shoulders but I needed it.  Badly.  I asked her to be gentle on my legs as I have prominent veins and it was at that point I was so relaxed I dozed off in a sea of bliss.

The oils from the candle made my skin super soft for many hours afterwards and the feeling of light shoulders lasted for several days so I was very happy and would recommend anyone keen on a gentle or powerful massage to pay a visit.  They can tailor the session around you and your needs!

They also do memberships packages if you want a massage every month – a good incentive to keep up the good work and don’t let your back and shoulders become knotted and inflexible!

The massage I had costs £60 for 60 minutes using the Janjira Massage candle – made from beeswax, soybean and coconut oil and enriched with grapefruit, tangerine and rhubarb!
