Paraben Free Haircare

Paraben Free Haircare – Why?

Our bodies are like natural sponges and absorb everything that we put on it.  Cancer researchers have recently discovered parabens in breast tumors. Research has shown that parabens act like estrogen in the female body and since breast cancer responds to estrogen, the research makes sense.

Parabens are the most widely used and inexpensive preservatives on the market – prolonging shelf life for up to 20 years.  They can be found in shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, shaving deoderants and cosmetics as well as all kinds of skin and body care.

Award winning MÁDARA ecocosmetics, rich in powerful and effective ingredients taken from the flowers and herbs of the Baltic meadows to nourish and nurture your skin. Due to the Latvian short summers plants have to work much faster to conserve their potency.

They recommend for normal hair:

MÁDARA gloss and vibrancy organic shampoo and conditioner – gently cleanses and strengthens hair with its shine enhancing formula, whilst adding radiance and silkiness. MÁDARA gloss and vibrancy organic shampoo calms the scalp, prevents dry ends and leaves hair healthy and strong, while the conditioner deeply nourishes and strengthens, leaving it looking shiny and easy to manage.   They are both enriched with Baltic botanicals – linden flower, chamomile, birch, plantain, hop and cranberry.

My trial of these products is going well, my hair looks great and I’m sure the shampoo smells of banana – very pleasant to use in the morning!

Leading trichologist Philip Kingsley has also developed a paraben free product which is also scent and colour free.  This is suitable for those undergoing radiotherapy, as well as the general population who want to be careful what is going near their bodies.

Philip Kingsley introduces No Scent No Colour – a shampoo/conditioner duo that is formulated for sensitive, delicate or easily irritated scalps.  It is designed to address the needs of the growing number of allergic and reactive skin types for whom fragrance and strong surfactants are not an option.  Inspired by Joan Kingsley’s experience while undergoing cancer treatment, No Scent No Colour addresses the needs of those undergoing radiotherapy.

No Scent No Colour Shampoo provides gentle, effective cleansing that leaves hair soft and manageable.  The formula is fragrance, colour, SLS and paraben free. £5.60 for 75ml; £14.30 for 250ml

No Scent No Colour Conditioner leaves hair shiny, manageable, sleek and tangle free.  The formula is free from colour, fragrance and parabens.  For fine textured hair use sparingly on mid-lengths and ends.  On coarser, curlier, frizzy textures, use more generously from root to tip. £7.10 for 75ml; £17.40 for 250ml

‘No Scent No Colour meant that I could undergo treatment and keep my hair looking as healthy and beautiful as possible.  This, in turn, provided a fabulous confidence boost.  We are donating 50p of every 250ml bottle and 25p of every 75ml bottle to Look Good Feel Better because that’s precisely what NSNC does – helps you look good and feel better inside and out.’                                                                   – Joan Kingsley

The charity works directly with cancer patients by helping them to enhance their self esteem and self confidence during and after their treatment.  A donation is made from every bottle of No Scent No Colour shampoo and conditioner sold.
