“My hair is oily at the roots (needs washed again within 48 hours) normal most of the way through but also quite fine.  It’s also “fluffy” if not treated well.  I find if I use shampoos designed for straight/sleek hair, it makes it look lank.  Volumising shampoos give it too much “fluff” so what’s the solution?”

JOICO® Global Artistic Director, Damien Carney says:

“There are several steps you can take to treat this problem. Firstly, watch your diet and try to cut out oily foods and fish where possible.

When washing your hair try shampooing with cool water. Warm or hot water can increase the blood flow and oil productivity.  Also, try using a clarifying shampoo and shampooing your hair once, rather than shampooing twice. Over ‘scrubbing’ the scalp area simulates the cuticle and in turn can induce it to produce more oil. Try JOICO® K-Pak Chelating Shampoo (£13.95)

Another tip is to avoid using heavy creamy conditioners on the scalp area; only use conditioner on the mid-shaft and ends or your hair, or purely nourish the parts of the hair which really need it.

JOICO®’s newest hair range; Smooth Cure should be able to solve all your problems as it keeps greasy hair and fluffy ends under control. The shampoo and conditioner in the range are excellent on oily scalps and hair that is prone to frizz, fluff, humidity and dryness, as it smoothes the hair with the correct amount of nourishment and moisture balance. If the problem still persists, try applying Smooth Cure Leave-In Rescue Treatment to damp hair instead of using a wet conditioner. It’s lightweight, easy to control and easy to keep off the scalp. The trick as before is to only apply where your hair needs it. When styling your hair, use the Smooth Cure Thermal Styling Protectant before blow-drying/straighening. This will smooth the hair, and ensure that any fluffy hair is kept at bay.”
