Top 10 Winter Hair Care Tips From Celebrity Hairstylist, Asgar

1.     The winter months can dull hair, in order to get a healthy shine you should invest in a good quality shampoo and conditioner. Wash and condition your hair, then blast it with a cold water rinse to help seal in the conditioner. This kind of treatment will make your hair easier to style and adds extra shine.

  • Simply-Woman recommends Sebastian Professional Trilliance shampoo & conditioner for smooth, hydrated and glossy hair.  But we also really like Herbal Essences 🙂

2.     Hair becomes damaged by exposure to the sun and sea during the summer months, and so needs to be nourished from within. An ordinary shampoo and conditioner is often not enough. You need an intensive moisturising shampoo and conditioner, and products with the word ‘replenish’ on them usually do the trick.

  • Fekkai Protein Rx Reparative Shampoo and conditioner is ideal for brittle, broken hair that has been weakened from colouring, relaxing or heat styling.   An exclusive soy and milk protein complex restores and reinforces hair preventing future breakage, leaving hair stronger and more manageable. 200ml – £20

3.     Try to add a hair treatment mask once a week to your hair care routine.

  • Aussie Three Minute Miracle is a bit of a hero product on the high street – thousands swear by its ability to give great hair back.  Otherwise you could try some of these other options on LookFantastic – there’s a massive list to choose from based on hair type, colour and how badly damaged it is.  We like;
  • Wella SP 3.2 Repair Mask. An exceptionally rich and intensive conditioning treatment offering 100% repair after just one application! Its advanced formula will restore your hairs strength and shine for improved health.
  • Fekkai Advanced Technician Rapid Results Moisture Mask  Rich and rapid, this mask submerges hair in humectants and extracts to revive just-coloured condition and silkiness. All with colour-lock protection.
  • Sebastian Professional Hydre Treatment is an intensely hydrating and nourishing masque that will reinvigorate and replenish your hair leaving it full of body and with a silky soft finish.
  • Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque rejuvenates and rebuilds your hair, leaving it deeply nourished with improved elasticity and shine.   With a nourishing combination of the world’s most rare, valuable and lightweight natural oils, macadamia oil and argan oil, along with tea tree oil, chamomile oil, aloe and algae extracts, Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque is full of long lasting conditioning benefits.

4.     Moisturise your hair once a week with a hot oil treatment to promote a healthy scalp and nourished hair. Some natural oils that work particularly well include coconut oil and almond oil or try the cult favourite Macadamia Hair Oil.

  • Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment is beneficial to all hair types, particularly dry, brittle and damaged types.  Natural UV protection offers defence against sun damage, extending the life of colour treatments; whilst it’s capabilities to reduce drying time by an amazing 40-50% means less exposure to heat-related hair damage.

5.     Give your hair a new lease of life in the autumn/winter months by cutting it to get rid of split ends. Try to have your split ends cut everysix to eight weeks to promote healthy hair.

6.     As the weather becomes colder and the air drier, this takes its toll on your hair and can cause it to become brittle and dry and to break. The cold weather outdoors as well as things like indoor heating can all damage hair. Wear a scarf or hat when outside, and add humidity to the air in your home or office—your skin and hair will thank you.

7.     To avoid frizzy, static-prone hair in the winter months tie up your hair as much as possible, particularly when out and about

8.     If you use heat styling tools, like curling tongs or hair straighteners, then you must always use a good quality, nourishing heat defence spray or leave-in conditioner to protect the hair and keep it looking glossy and hydrated. This is particularly the case in the winter months when the cold winds, rain and the added heat from styling tools all contribute to hair damage.

  • Use the same Macadamia Hair Oil which has been shown to reduce drying time by 40-50% along with;
  • Sebastian Professional Trilliant contains a multifaceted complex designed to gently condition your hair and provide thermal protection whilst adding ultra-light body and a shimmering soft, smooth finish.  RRP £19
  • Wella Professionals Dry Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray. Protect your locks from blow drying, straightening and curling with this hair saviour.  RRP £10.15

9.     In the winter months, try not to go out with wet hair, as the cold weather can cause your hair to freeze at the cuticle and cause it to break.

10.  Lastly, why not rejuvenate yourself and go for a new look this winter by dyeing your hair a dark, warm colour. Colours in at the moment include: mahogany, plum and chocolate brown
