Top trends from Autumn Winter 13 Fashion Month

If you’re feeling completely overwhelmed (understandably) with the amount of shows and clothes Fashion Month has churned out (and we’re only in the first few days of Milan) then look no further as I’ve been taking note of all the key goings-on. I’ve taken the time, so you don’t have to, to break down the key trends so far in a manageable yet fun few paragraphs. Enjoy!

The beanie

This fun and furry accessory was seen in equal amounts on the catwalks and on the streets. It is literally everywhere! Stuck firmly on the top of the most stylish heads in New York, London and now Milan this is one of the most wearable trends of the season. It’s looking newest in bright shades so use it to add a pop of colour to your outfit and bring it into urban territory.

Monochrome

Black and white is back! And it’s bigger and better than previous seasons; it’s been snapped in oversized checkerboard prints all over apparel and footwear at shows such as trendsetter Marc Jacobs and the inimitable Tom Ford. Take full advantage of 60s-inspired trend as it’s super easy to adapt into your current wardrobe. Simply mix and match as many black and white items as is possible, preferably with a check print thrown in at some point.

High-shine leather

This one is not for the faint hearted. However, if you do it right, it will bring instant glamour to any ensemble. And how I hear you ask? Use glossy leather pieces in as subtle a manner as possible. This clever styling technique was done perfectly at Topshop Unique. They mixed textures exquisitely; chunky intarsia knits with a high-shine leather A-line skirt or with panelling on oversized outerwear.

Animal patterns

Animal-style prints and patterns are a perennial catwalk trend and always seem to crop up in any which way possible. This season we’ve seen zebra, camouflage and of course the much-loved leopard not only in apparel. Accessories, mainly bags and scarves have been getting the jungle treatment too with printed fur pieces feeling newest. This trend takes inspiration from the outdoors, adventure and animals, obviously, much like one of our favourite keep warm accessories of the moment, the SpiritHood. So watch this space for a little jungle fever coming your way next autumn!
