This year Laithwaite’s Wines www.laithwaites.co.uk presents the below delights to help you celebrate the festive period:

Reichsrat von Buhl Riesling Brut Sekt 2015, 12.5% abv

A bone dry white from one of Germany’s oldest and exciting wine estates gives us a nose full of ripe green apples and peach, and a creaminess tinged with citrus as the bubbles dissolve on the palette. At £17.99 per bottle this fizz is fitting for seeing in the New Year with.

Andresen 10-year-old White Port (50cl) 2015, 20% abv

Delightfully packaged Andresen 10-year-old White Port

Pulsing with bright orange and yellow hues is this gorgeous, Andresen Port. The nose is non-specific yet syrupy and the palette boasts dried raisins, sultanas, honey and tartness. Packaged in a sumptuous presentation box this would make a wonderful any-time-of-year gift for port admirers. £14.99 for 50cl.

La Nuit Blanche Cabernet Blanc 2017, 12% abv

This white delight is from the relatively new Cabernet Blanc grape.  Aromas of melon and citrus are evident as soon as the bottle is opened. This wine would pair well with a white meat or fish dish that is not overpowering, as the wine has a delicate, though long finish. £11.99.

La Font del Bosc (50cl) 2009, 16.5% abv

This red has all the hallmarks you’d expect from grenache grapes, such as intensity, medium and dark red fruits and body. Pair this with a robust, red meat. £13.99 for 50cl.

Jam Shed Shiraz 2017, 13.5% abv

No surprise that Aussie wines pack intensity into the red fruit and chocolate palette, while vanilla tickles the nose and entices you to more. Naturally, this type of wine is robust enough to withstand pairing with strongly flavoured meats. Around £7 from Tesco and Ocado.

Tio Pepe Fino Sherry , 15% abv

Sophisticated at any occasion, Tio Pepe needs no introduction. A pleasure to drink – chilled or over ice, or as the base for adult mixers, the palette is pleasant and ‘raisiny’ and ‘almondy’ with little sweetness. Winner of a 2018 Drinks International Award for #1 most trending sherry. See www.tiopepe.co.uk. From all good stockists including Waitrose, £10.
