She’s been with us since birth, seen us through thick and thin. Somehow words don’t seem enough to describe the woman at the heart of all our lives. Whether you will celebrate or not, here’s our wine pick for this special day and beyond – from Aldi and Morissons supermarkets.

In the photo from left to right:

Jackson Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2011 13.0% abv

This juicy white comes from New Zealand’s Marlborough region. It is rich and intense on the palate with gooseberry and lime overtones. This ‘reservation release’ intertwines with passionfruit and tropical fruit flavours for a long refreshing finish. Savour alone or with pasta dishes. From Morrisons supermarket.

Full Bloom California White Zinfandel 2011 10.5 abv %

This rosé is sweeter than regular Zinfandels. Think luscious strawberries and red fruit followed by a refreshing finish. We recommend drinking this wine on its own, otherwise it is ideal with salads and tuna, or fruit desserts.

See www.fulllbloomwines.com or visit Morrisons supermarket to buy for £6.99.

Castellore Pinot Grigio Frizzante Blush 2011 indicazione geografica tipica

This northern Italian wine is described as tasting of freshly picked cherries and raspberries with a silky strawberries finish. We’d agree. This wine has a delicate yet lively palate. The delicacy is exacerbated by the fizz which is shortlasting. Definitely one to drink on its own, uncontaminated by food. Buy from Aldi for £3.99 a bottle. Part of Aldi’s core range available all year round.

Monsigny Brut No 3 Champagne Veuve abv 12 %

From the house of Elabore Philzot et Fils. Aged five years in oak barrels to increase complexity on the palate.  Hints of lemon and pear give this champagne a fresh bouquet. For the party types among you, or if you want soemthinf special with your meal. Mum will also thank you for a glass to finish the end of her busy day. Buy for £12.99 from Aldi. Part of Aldi’s core range available all year round.

Aldi opens a new store every week in the UK. Their ‘no-frills’ approach i.e. simple store layout, stock of staple items means they pass cost savings directly to the consumer.  Recently their wine and beverages section has undergone a ‘revamp’ with an influx of wines form the New World and Eastern European countries. See http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/product_range/productrange_wine_cellar.htm for more great wines
