Now that lockdown rules are easing, we note with delight that we can now celebrate (in England) in groups of up to six outdoors, which is good news with the coming longer days ahead. So, to start you off here is a selection of seasonal wines Laithwaites are offering, but you need to hurry if you want to get them in time for Easter.

Siefried Estate Sweet Agnes Riesling 2019, 10.5% abv, New Zealand

This is a rich, syrupy white set to accompany deserts, though equally delicious on its own. The palate bursts with passionfruit notes and an overtone of gooseberry and oranges. From the Siefried Family estate this wine has won 47 gold medals since its inaugural vintage. £19.49 a bottle.

Terra di Nonno Vermentino 2019, 12.0% abv, Italy

Great for the pescatarians among you, this white marries a honey and orchard fruit palate. The nose has a lively and fresh floral aroma perfect for the spring evenings. Today honed from a pact signed in 1958 by a community of 68 winemakers who desired to keep their produce local. £9.99 per bottle.

My Karp Riesling 2019, 14.0% abv, Spain

From the riesling grape we found a mineral nose tempered by a grapefruit palate, sweetened by a floral infused finish. Weighty without being overbearing, this is good with white meats or salads. £13.49 per bottle.

Stone Pine Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, 14.5% abv, Spain

What can we say about this grape that red wine lovers don’t already know? The intense blackcurrant and vanilla nose feels seductive already, even before savouring the rich palate of plum. Furthermore, ageing in oak barrels for 16 months ensures a silky finish. Pair with red meats like beef or lamb for £9.99 per bottle.

Do celebrate and enjoy the outdoors, however please sip within sensible limits.
